Charles Arthur Wheeler 1881 - 1977, Australian

Born in New Zealand in 1881, Charles Wheeler arrived in Australia at an early age. He studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne and later in Europe. Best known for his nude studies and portraits, he won many awards, including the Archibald prize in 1933. As a teacher at the National Gallery School in Melbourne he was respected as an exceptional instructor of technique. The winner of numerous awards, his works are represented in most state and major provincial collections.
