Carl Hampel Studied in Melbourne with Max Meldrum c1914-1922. He began his working life in the post office at Bendigo, then in 1914 moved to manage the family farm in the Mallee where he was encouraged by his mother to observe nature and study art. He was a member of the Australian Art Association and also exhibited at Victoria Art Society. In 1922 he moved to Tasmania. Moved to UK in 1923. He exhibited in London at the Royal Academy and attained some success. With his wife and one of their children he was killed in London during an air raid in 1942.
