James Lawrence Isherwood 1917 - 1989, English
Oil on Board, 54.5cm x 29.5cm

James Lawrence Isherwood is widely regarded as one of the best impressionist/expressionist painters Britain has ever produced. Born and bred in Wigan, he was an extremely prolific painter producing his best work between the late 50's and late 80's. His works are highly sought after and good examples are becoming increasingly rare. This work titled Wigan Rainy Day is a classic example of his Wigan street scenes. Marked on the back with the original price 95gns and EVA. The price has been crossed out and the paining marked 'Not for Sale' which means that Isherwood was keeping this work for his personal collection.
