John Samuel Watkins was born in England in 1866 arriving in Australia in 1882.  He studied widely in Europe and Australia where he taught and opened his own art school in Sydney.  He painted in both oils and watercolours producing vibrant works depicting the Australian landscape.  He was a member of the Royal Art Society of New South Wales.  His work is represented in several major public collections.

This beautiful detailed oil painting depicts a rural scene from the early part of the 20thC.
