Robert McGregor (1847-1922) was born in Bradford but moved first to Dunfermline and then to Edinburgh, where he studied art. He was particularly interested in painting the everyday life of the countryside, and in this was probably influenced by French painters such as Jean François Millet and Bastien Lepage.
This is a beautiful example of his work housed in a decorative period frame.
