Howard Barron 1900 - 1991, English

Howard Barron was a traditional painter and portraitist. He studied in the UK with H.A. Rigby, Sir William Ashton and Middleton Todd, and portraiture under Fleewood-Walker. He was given numerous commissions in his latter years including the portraits of the Lord Mayor of London, Sir Frank Newson; Dame Nellie Melba (Posth) which was presented to Sir Robert Menzies and hangs in the main hall of Australia House, London. HM Queen Elizabeth for the Royal Air Force, numerous business leaders and institutional heads. He was awarded the Silver Medal, Paris Salon 1954, and elected fellow of the International Institute  of Arts and Letters, Geneva 1957. He held many one-man and group exhibitions. His works are represented in the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Queensland Art Gallery, as well as many bodies and institutions in the UK and Australia.

This is a beautiful work showing fishermen unloading their catch at low tide in St Ives harbour.
